The Village of Huntley is currently experiencing Severe Drought conditions per the US Drought Monitor. As we enter the warm weather season, it is the perfect time to share a reminder about outdoor watering within the Village.
The current watering restriction is Condition Yellow which allows the outside use of the Village’s potable water supply for lawn watering only on alternate days (odd/even based on your address) between the hours of 6 am - 9 am and 6 pm - 9 pm.
If the drought continues for a prolonged period, this condition could change to further limit outdoor watering. Signs are posted throughout the Village displaying the color and water restriction conditions. Current conditions are also posted on the Village's website: https://www.huntley.il.us/.../public_works_and.../water.php
Did you know?
When watering an established lawn, it is typically recommended to water until only the top 6 inches of soil (where most turfgrass roots grow) is wet. Most lawns need 1 inch of water per week—either from rain or watering—to soak the soil to that depth.
It is generally recommended to limit frequency of watering to every 3 to 7 days.
It is not advised to water daily as overwatering could lead to fungus, shallow root systems, and poor stewardship of this finite resource.
Your efforts to help the Village preserve potable water supplies with good water conservation practices are appreciated!
