Floodplains and Flooding
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provides protection for property owners against flood loss while working with communities to develop Floodplain Management programs. Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) identify areas of high risk. The Engineering Division maintains current FEMA maps and assists residents, realtors and engineers in determining whether a floodplain encroaches on a property. FEMA maps are also available on-line.
The Engineering Division also provides advice and assistance to residents experiencing flooding and drainage problems. Please call the Public Works and Engineering Department at 847-515-5222 for assistance and appointment.
