VALUE STATEMENT

Treat all citizens with equality, respect, and compassion.

Work as a team to provide professional service to the community while maintaining a high quality of life.

VISION STATEMENT

The Huntley Police Department will strive to become a nationally accredited police agency consisting of highly trained professionals committed to maintaining a safe community and high quality of life.

MISSION STATEMENT

With crime prevention and law enforcement as our cornerstone, the Huntley Police Department is committed to providing professional service through a well-trained staff working with the community and other departments and agencies to maintain a safe, friendly village.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The primary responsibility of the Police Department is to ensure the safety and well being of all people in the Village. The members of the Department enforce all laws in a professional manner and the well-trained staff responds to the emergency and daily needs of the community. An active partnership with the citizens and business community of the Village of Huntley is a critical component of the overall success of the Department.

The staff of the Police Department consists of 2 Deputy Chiefs of Police, 4 Patrol Sergeants, 1 Support Services Sergeant, 1 Accreditation Manager, 1 Records Supervisor, 2 Detectives, 1 School Resource Officer, 22 Patrol Officers, 1 Chief Secretary, 2 Records Clerks and 1 Community Service Officer all led by Chief of Police John Perkins.

The Village Manager, with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, appoints the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police oversees all Officers and employees of the Police Department.

The Police Department faces many challenges with the growth of the community. Calls for service has continually increased over the last five years.

OFFICE OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

The Office of Professional Standards is an organizational component of the Huntley Police Department managed by Deputy Chief Michael Klunk. The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for maintaining a system that addresses and investigates the public’s complaints and ensures that the Department’s members act according to established policies and guidelines. This system will not only subject personnel to corrective action when wrong-doing or inappropriate conduct is determined, but will also serve to vindicate personnel when duties are properly and reasonably performed.

CALEA
LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION

The purpose of the Commission is to establish standards of professional excellence for public safety agencies, and to develop and administer a process for recognizing professional excellence.

In the fall of 2006, the Village of Huntley committed itself to seeking accredited status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.  (CALEA) by hiring a full time Law Enforcement Accreditation Manager, Gary Wigman. The Department now in self-assessment hopes to complete the process and become the second agency in McHenry County to obtain this goal by 2010.
