The Development Services Department is currently composed of 4 divisions
BUILDING & CODE ENFORCEMENT
The primary responsibility of the Building Division is to review and approve construction plans for all applicable codes and consequently to inspect for all subject building life-safety, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and property maintenance codes. The Building Division works closely with the Planning & Zoning Division, Village Engineer and the Huntley Fire Protection District in reviewing plans and insuring code compliance. The Building Division issues permits and inspects for familiar construction projects such as room additions, home remodeling decks, fences, patios and other property amenities.

PLANNING & ZONING
The Planning & Zoning Division is primarily responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals for proposed land developments such as subdivisions, special use permits and zoning variations. The Planning & Zoning Division works to ensure that growth occurs in a compatible, orderly and efficient manner as prescribed in the Village's Comprehensive Plan. The Planning & Zoning Division prepares long term planning studies and enforces and interprets the Zoning Ordinance.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Economic development remains a top priority for the Village Board of Trustees. The Village recently completed a Strategic Marketing Action Plan to use as a tool for attracting commercial and retail development. The four major priority objectives that the Village will strive to achieve within the timeframe of the plan are as follows:
- Create and promote a branded and unique identity for the Route 47 corridor and the community, which facilitates business attraction, regional visibility and visitor attraction.
- Develop and implement a detailed Business Attraction strategy which fulfills and supports the above; and which maximizes the potential of existing and planned zoning uses within the corridor;
- Develop and implement an organized economic development process; provide manpower for same; and allocate resources to achieve program success;
- Develop and implement an awareness-building outreach marketing program which promotes the corridor and its identity and benefits to target businesses which fulfill the above strategies and, thus, provide momentum for ongoing attraction efforts.
The project was partially funded by a grant received from the Kane County’s Small Cities Grant Program. The Village remains committed to maximizing the potential of the Route 47 commercial corridors.

ENGINEERING
The Engineering Department is responsible for overseeing various capital improvement projects (street resurfacing and reconstruction, underground utility replacement and rehabilitation) undertaken by the Village, and also for coordination with capital improvement projects performed by other County and State agencies.

*Important Notice Regarding Title 15 Links
The links above lead to actual chapters found in Title 15. Many Village ordinances have been approved subsequent to the latest printing of Title 15. Therefore, anyone planning construction on their property, or changing the land use, must check with the Village early on in the planning process to be sure they are following the latest ordinances. Also, certain residential and commercial developments are subject to additional regulations set forth in annexation agreements or other development regulations adopted by the Village as part of a Planned Unit Development. Please contact the Village's Planning and Zoning Department if you have questions regarding ordinances that relate to your development.
