Gary Wigman began his career in Chicago as a Special Agent for the C. & N.W.
Railway Police in 1971. In 1972 he relocated to McHenry and became a
member of the Police Department in 1974. He spent 25 years in Criminal
Investigations ,17 in a supervisory capacity. He is a recipient of the AFP “Silver Star for Bravery”. He was awarded 17 Federal, State and City
of McHenry Commendations during his career. He has chaired numerous
State and local professional boards and is a certified police instructor
in several police specialty areas. Gary is a graduate of
the 156th Session of FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He has served
the USA Olympic Security Tasks Force in 1996 in Atlanta, Ga. and in Salt
Lake City, UT in 2002. In 2001 he was promoted to Deputy Chief and
served as the Commander of the Division of Support Services and CALEA
Law Enforcement Accreditation Manager.
In March of 2006 under his direction McHenry became the first police
agency of McHenry County to be awarded accredited status by the National
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. In September
2006, Deputy Chief Wigman retired from the City of McHenry Police
Department with 32 years of service.
In October of 2006 Gary accepted the position of Accreditation Manager
with the Village of Huntley Police Department and has recently been
appointed Department Firearms Range Master.
