Great news!! All Route 47 Thru Lanes are now OPEN! Please continue to watch for construction workers over the winter installing street lighting and traffic control signals with occasional single lane closures. Remain alert and watch your speed, Route 47 through the project remains posted a 35 MPH construction zone.
Please note: The new Route 47 lane configurations are designed to keep traffic flowing freely. Part of this design includes non-mountable medians that restrict left turns onto Route 47 in certain locations (and may not be visible under snow). Please take your time now to familiarize yourself with new in and out access points to businesses.
What’s Next? While there is cause to celebrate the opening of the new lanes, it does not mean the project is complete. IDOT officials granted the contractor an extension until June 2012 to complete the work.
Reminder: It is against the law in Illinois for drivers to talk on cell phones in construction zones. There are only 3 exceptions for talking on a cell phone in a construction zone:
- The driver is using a Bluetooth device;
- The driver has the cell phone on speaker phone and is not holding the device; or
- The driver is calling 911 to report an emergency situation.
The village will continue to post Route 47 construction updates as information becomes available from IDOT. The IDOT updates will be posted to this website: Route 47 Widening Project website
The Village Board and Staff are committed to do everything possible to keeping you well informed and helping in whatever ways possible during this time as the final product of a widened Route 47 will benefit all of us in the future.
